One Family, Two Family, New Family

Stories and Advice for
Stepfamilies

Lisa Cohn
and William Merkel, Ph.D.
One out
of every three couples now start their marriages with children
from previous marriages. There are more than 20 million stepfamilies
in America, and more than half of Americans alive today will
take part in stepfamily life at some point in their lives.
Lisa Cohn
and William Merkel have written an honest and revealing work
that provides stepfamilies and dating single parents with
wisdom and practical advice. One Family, Two Family, New
Family is the story of how Lisa and Bill survived their
first years together, which is the most difficult time for
second families, experts say. Weaving in stories from three
other stepfamilies, Bill and Lisa discuss how they chose to
unite their hearts and families, but keep their refrigerators
and checkbooks separate. Lisa and Bill explain how they and
other families came to accept difficult children and abandon
fantasies about loving all children equally.
One
Family, Two Family, New Family is filled with helpful
tips along with brutally honest revelations of the joys and
fears, struggles and triumphs of the New American Family.

Praise For One Family, Two Family, New Family:

"Of
all the books written about the unique struggles and opportunities
of stepfamilies, none combine both wisdom and wit as well
as Cohn and Merkel's articulate and compassionate treatment
of the subject. One Family, Two Family will be an enormous
aid to anyone involved in creating a New family."
