FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 22, 2007

What would the Biblical Eve say to Christian women today? What universal spiritual wisdom might the archetype of Eve impart to all of her daughters?

White Cloud Press is proud to announce the upcoming release of Resurrecting Eve: Women of Faith Challenge the Fundamentalist Agenda, by Roberta Pughe and Paula Sohl, avalable nationwide in May 2007.

This daring and original examination of the Church endeavors to decriminalize Eve, re-imagining her as a modern-day mythic mentor. Pughe and Sohl explore Eves bold, self-directed and inquisitive nature as a model for women today who have been negatively affected by the oppressive and hierarchical systems that have ignored the wise contribution of the feminine.

Addressing the politically influential voices of Christian leaders such as James Dobson, Pughe and Sohl outline the repression of women and the devaluation of the feminine as the true family values of the Christian fundamentalist dogma. Drawing on personal experiences, Sohl and Pughe analyze fundamentalist systems from a political, theological, and psychological perspective. Through case studies and the use of story, they unveil the mechanisms whereby women are programmed to live the Good Woman Role. They develop a framework for evaluating how and why much patriarchal religious ideology tends towards extremism and hostility, especially in regards to its underlying misogyny. They offer support and encouragement for women in recovery from these influences.

Barbara G. Walker, author of The Womans Encyclopedia of Myths and Secrets says, Resurrecting Eve is a much-needed counterweight to the unthinking kinds of fundamentalism that disfigure our spiritual environment. The authors have been there, have risen above the limitations their religious training sought to impose on them, and have produced a work of sincerity, validity, and hope.

Roberta Mary Pughe, M.A., Ed.S is a former staff member at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Churchs GangWay Youth Ministries and a certified instructor in Reverend Dr. D. James Kennedys Evangelism Explosion program. Today Roberta is an interfaith minister, mother of two and a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 20 years experience. Paula Anema Sohl is a dancer, singer-songwriter, peace activist, and mother of three.

Resurrecting Eve continues the fifteen-year White Cloud Press tradition of offering spiritual inspiration and thought-provoking explorations of spiritual practice and faith.
