MD Offers Answer to Health Care Crisis

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 20, 2006

Ashland, Ore The U.S. is the worlds only nation that reports its healthcare statistics in two categories, one for black and the other for white citizens. Meanwhile, over 45 million people in the U.S. have no healthcare coverage, and an estimated 40 million more have inadequate healthcare. The WHO reports that Native Americans, rural African-Americans males, and much of the inner city poor have life expectancy numbers that match many Third World nations. America is number 29 in a list of 35 nations included in the last UN Human Development report for average life expectancy.

We see these appalling statistics because the medical community has fallen prey to insurance conglomerates and pharmaceutical companies, according to Don Sloan, M.D. In his new book, Dr. Sloan explains that by controlling medical services and policies nationwide, these corporations are literally Practicing Medicine Without a License!

Dr. Sloan presents a comprehensive critique of our failing healthcare system. He gives historical context to the current political debate, articulates the need for reform, and makes the case for a radical solution: a single-payer, universal health plan for everyone mandated by law.

Don Sloan is a medical doctor with almost four decades experience in private practice. He has published over 85 peer review journal articles on medical issues and the politics of his profession.

This insightful new book dramatically demonstrates why our present system, all based on maximizing corporate profits, inevitably short changes the sick and needy and ignores preventive care that could avert potential illness in countless others," says U.S. Representative John Conyers (D-MI), sponsor of the health insurance bill HR 676.

Hara Estroff Marano, Editor at Large, Psychology Today, remarks HMOs and hospitals are now allied against the interests of patients and of doctors who are trained to care for them. Only the administrators benefit in a system that wastes an outrageous amount of money on paperwork. This book pinpoints why the public resists the obvious solution. It is a bracing tonic for anyone who ever interacts with the healthcare systemwhich is to say, all of us.
