NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT - Elizabeth T. Gray, Jr. has been elected the new Chair of the Board of Directors of The Iran Human Rights Documentation Center (IHRDC). She has been a member of the Center's Board since January 2009.

elizabeth-t-grayMs. Gray, a consultant, poet, translator, and independent scholar, is a graduate of Radcliffe College and Harvard Law School. She co-founded Conflict Management, Inc. and Conflict Management Group. Her global practice specialty was the formation and management of complex inter-corporate alliances. She has lived and traveled widely in the Middle East and South Asia, studied Urdu and Persian at Harvard, and was a research associate at the University of Isfahan, Iran, in 1975-1976. Her translations of Iran's major mystic lyric poet, Hafiz-i Shirazi (d. 1389) were published by White Cloud Press in 1995. In The Green Sea of Heaven, Ms. Gray presents fifty ghazals from Háfiz's Díwán (collected works), a fine sampling of his poetic genius, expressing his passion for the Divine Beloved and his scandalous (to the Muslim clergy of the day) exaltation of music and wine as vehicles of transcendence and religious ecstasy.

IHRDC is a non-profit organization based in New Haven, Connecticut that was founded in 2004 by a group of human rights scholars, activists, and historians. Its staff of human rights lawyers and researchers produce comprehensive and detailed reports on the human rights situation in Iran since the 1979 revolution. The Center's goal is to encourage an informed dialogue among scholars and the general public in both Iran and abroad. The human rights reports and a database of documents relating to human rights in Iran are available to the public for research and educational purposes on the Center's website. www.iranhrdc.org
