![]() Killing Memory KILLING MEMORY is a lucid introduction to the cultural history of Bosnia-Herzegovina from pre-Ottoman times to the present. The documentary video provides an expose of the systematic destruction of Bosnian heritage by ethno-nationalist militias, while NATO, the UN, and the world looks on. KILLING MEMORY offers a 41-minute presentation illustrating the richness and diversity of the cultural heritage of Bosnia-Herzegovina through beautiful images of mosques, synagogues and churches of Sarejevo and Mostar. The film shows the sacred sites, which often existed in close proximity to each other, before and after their systematic destruction at the hands of Serb and Croat nationalist armies. The film is narrated and produced by Andras Riedlmayer, director of the Documentation Center for Islamic Architecture at the Fine Arts Library of Harvard University. Riedlmayer discusses the importance of cultural monuments (architecture, music, literature) to the identity and survival of a people, a discussion that provides a deeper understanding as to the reasons behind the ethnic cleansing that includes mass executions and cultural annihilation.
