Bridging the I-System

Unifying Spirituality and Behavior

Stanley H. Block, MD.
(with Carolyn Bryant Block)
Bridging the I-System: Unifying Spirituality and Behavior breaks down the
barriers between science, behavior, and spirituality, going beyond existing
self-help and spirituality books. In a concise format, Dr. Stanley Block
with collaborator Carolyn Bryant Block, describe the theory of the
"I-System"-the part of the mind where our self-centered thoughts restrict
awareness and maintains an agenda of separateness (me vs. the world, vs.
others, vs. God). Bridging the I-System presents clear examples of how our
behavior rests on the fiction of our separateness, then provides the reader
with simple "bridging" practices, leading us to higher levels of physical,
mental, and spiritual well-being as we go about our daily lives.
Comments on Bridging
the I-System:

"In this
remarkable work, Stanley Block moves toward the outer frontier of
present-day wisdom, philosophy, and ontology by pointing out how
we mortals severely handicap ourselves by our unwitting submission
to the unconscious dictates of the "I-System." By the I-System Block
means normal (as well as abnormal) self-centeredness instead of
awareness of that other, less obvious aspect of ourselves and of
the world that is other than "I." This other domain is the spiritual
world. When we surrender our selfish I-ness in favor of compassionate
bridging to our spiritual world, we become whole, integrated, and
self-transcendent. We have an invisible and awesome friend within
us who is at our disposal - for the price of surrendering our petty
I-ness. Bridging the I-System is a dramatic and vital work. I recommend
it for scientists, physicians, mental health workers, and all who
seek to unify spirituality and behavior.
