The Perseus Books Group has reached an agreement with Apple to sell its e-book titles through the iBookstore in time for the launch of Apple's much anticipated multimedia reading device, the iPad, in April. The agreement includes Perseus titles as well as those of its distribution clients.

Perseus follows Macmillan and four other major New York City trade book houses who also plan to sell their e-books through the iBookstore using the "agency' business model in which Apple gets 30% of the e-book's retail price. It's expected that most of the e-books will sell for somewhere between $12.99 and $14.99. Perseus Distribution clients include Distributed Art Publishers, the New Press, Columbia University Press and Harvard Business School.

David Steinberger, president and CEO of the Perseus Books Group, said the house was "working with Apple to make books from The Perseus Books Group and the independent publishers we represent available on the iBookstore starting on April 3. Perseus is thrilled to be making our books available on the iPad."

Perseus is the parent company of PGW, which distributes White Cloud Press titles.
